Project 1: Barcelona Pavilion

The first project for Studio II was to do a in-depth architectural study of a famous building that would be assigned to us randomly. For us,it will be Barcelona Pavilion.

In groups of 5-6,we would proceed with our own analysis from the history of the building, to the architectural details & orthographics, as well as the style applied. In between that,we have to diccuss our research products and informations with the tutor so that they can try to enhance what we had in order to produce a better final product.

From there, ten 'architectural keywords' would be chosen from our own choices, and 10 mini-models had to be made in accompanying to 10 architectural drawings. While in the final submission,we would have to submit a total of 10 mini models(keywords),10 architectural drawings(keywords) and complete orthograhic drawings.

Project 2: Observation Deck

In the second project, the aim  was to create an "Observation Tower/Deck" after conducting a site visit to a given location, which is Cape Rachado in Port Dickson.

In correspondence to the location, our class was split into two groups: Group A, and Group B. Each group would be given a specific part of the site, and a detailed site analysis would have to be carried out.

After a site analysis was done, we were split into pairs for the project: whereby our task was to create an observation tower/deck.And i get to pair up with my best friend,Edwin. We had to work together on researching and brainstorming about the concepts that we are gonna apply on our design.

The importance of this project was to see if we could create a design using two chosen keywords (my pair & mine's being: Light & Shadow,Geometry) and create an observation deck that not only serves it's purpose, but could relate to the context/site.It was a fun project as we get to visit port dickson and have a new experience on designing an architecture on a site that we have visited.

Project 2B: Retreat House

The final project for Semester II: Studio was an individual project.

Using the same site that we were assigned from Project #02: Observation Deck, we took turns in a lucky draw, getting both a personality and a client occupation.Mine was a retired environmentalist though.

Using that combination, each individual would have to design a retreat home, creating our own concept, form and design objective. It was a challenging assignment as i did'nt really understand what my client was,so i had to research more to get more information.

This project was tougher than the previous one as the scale turns bigger and there are more spacial planning that we had to do.However it was fun designing a retreat house for your own client(imagined).

Reflection:

Through these project, i have gained quite a lot of useful basic architecture knowledge. I have learnt that spatial planning is important to a client, especially to meet their needs and requirements. Besides,I've also learnt how a space work in its functions and also to always build according to the site context so that they relate to each other.
