Project 1

In the first project, we are required to identify a building in Asia and carry out a case study on the selected building through observations, readings and research on the comtemporary contextual architecture practices and issues in Asia. This project aims to provide us a better understanding on the fundamental issues of a typical contextual architecture and the led to the growth of vernacular architecture language in a country.

The building that i have chosen is S11 House which is located in Petaling Jaya. It's a bungalow owned by the architect, Dr. Tan,which is the first green building in Malaysia to be rated as Platinum of GBI. The contextual elements which I have focused on in this project are closely linked to the traditional housing design in Malaysia that designed responsively to the local cultural context and also climate. In which in the presentation board, I would have to showcase my understandings on the vernacular architecture and contextual architecture elements and how these factors affected the design process and final results of S11 House.

In this project, by using the same building as the previous project we are required to identify an issue or topic of study and further define the scope of study in our paper. We have first required to create a mind map to highlight the specific topic or issue and then give an overview of the proposed case study paper which included a proper title specifiying the issue identified, and also research questions that would be done throughout the case study.

This project is divided into four parts :

1. Topic and issue

2. Paper presentation

3. Abstract

4. Final case study paper
