Project 1: Auditorium: A case study on acoustic design

This Building Science II project is collaborative. In groups, we are to select a built auditorium located in Kuala Lumpur, and conduct an acoustical design case study based on our selected building. We picked the auditorium of Sidang Injil Borneo Kuala Lumpur (SIBKL), one of the largest protestant organization in Malaysia. Its auditorium is located within Bangunan Yin, in Phileo Damansara.

This assignment requires us to acquire or redraw the drawings of the auditorium, study the construction and finishing materials of the auditorium (walls, floor carpeting, seating, etc), analyze the sound reflection, diffraction and propagation, map out the sound path within the auditorium, identify echoes and possible noise intrusion, and finally calculate the reverberation time of our chosen auditorium.

Project 2: Studio V Integration project

Our final Building Science II project is in conjunction with our final Studio V project, for this project we are to propose implementation for daylighting and artificial lighting strategies in our proposed community library in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. This project also aims to help us solve design problems in relation to sustainability issues on site.

We conducted site analysis, as well as daylight factor analysis and artificial lighting analysis for our proposed community library, calculate the factors and amount of lighting fixtures to add, then propose a suitable lighting layout.
